| Obverse description | The obverse is engraved in a classical early 19th-century style with a central vignette of St. Mary's Church, Jersey, flanked by the Jersey arms on the left and the three lions passant guardant arms on the right, each bearing the denomination numeral "4/-" beside them. The legend "ST. MARY'S PAROCHIAL BANK" arches across the top within a decorative guilloche border, while the text of the promise to pay "ONE POUND" is rendered in bold letterpress at centre, with the word "BRITISH" overprinted in large open letters across the body of the note. At the lower margin appear the inscriptions "Procurant le Bien Public" and "Constable of St. Marys", with signature lines for the Enumerator and the Constable. |
