Only three examples of this note are documented in collector literature, making it among the rarest surviving British colonial issues of the period. The Falkland Islands' economy in 1899 was almost entirely dependent on wool production from a handful of large sheep-farming companies, and circulating paper currency was barely necessary — most transactions on the islands ran through company stores on credit. A government pound note in this environment had an extremely narrow functional role.
De La Rue's involvement was standard for British colonial territories of the period, but the tiny population of the Falklands — under 2,000 at the time — means original print runs were almost certainly very small.
