1 Pound

Zambia did not exist in 1963 — the country achieved independence on 24 October 1964. This note was issued by the Bank of Zambia ahead of that date as part of the preparatory currency infrastructure, making it one of the earliest pieces of Zambian monetary apparatus and predating the republic itself. The pound denomination was a deliberate continuity measure, keeping parity with the Rhodesian and Nyasaland pound during the transitional period before Zambia introduced the kwacha in 1968.
