Egypt's £E1 note has been printed by two entirely separate facilities across its lifespan — De La Rue in London handled earlier production, while the Central Bank's own printing house in Al-Haram, Giza, took over domestic output. The shift matters because paper quality and register consistency differ noticeably between sources, and the two can be distinguished by collectors familiar with both runs.
The signature date system used here is unusually granular. Multiple dates within single years — occasionally differing by a single day — create a collecting subspecialty of their own, and several dated variants remain unlisted in Pick, including replacement note series 600 from early 2004. Replacement notes from that series are among the harder finds.
