| Obverse description | Brown and green note with an elaborate scrollwork border enclosing the central text panel. The issuer's name "BARCLAYS BANK LIMITED" appears in a curved banner at the top, flanked by ornate £1 medallions in guilloche work at upper left and right. A green triskele underprint occupies the centre, over which the promise-to-pay legend is inscribed in copperplate script, with the denomination "ONE POUND" set in bold letterpress below and two large circular guilloche rosettes at lower left and right. Signatures of the Accountant and Manager appear in manuscript at the foot, with the date and place of issue printed between them. |

| Reverse description | Printed in brown on a fine geometric engine-turned ground, the reverse is dominated by a large central oval vignette of Douglas harbour, showing steam vessels at anchor with the town and hills beyond in a detailed intaglio panorama. The oval is surrounded by elaborate acanthus-scroll ornamentation, with large £1 cyphers in guilloche panels to the left and right. The issuer's name and branch arc across the top of the oval surround, and the Head Office address is lettered in a curved cartouche at the foot. |
