Stroma is not a governing authority. A privately owned island off the northern tip of Caithness, it was abandoned by its last permanent residents in 1962 and has no mint, no treasury, and no legal power to issue currency. Coins attributed to it are fantasy pieces — produced by private minting operations exploiting collector appetite for novelty "local" issues from British Isles place names.
