Nakhchivan is an Azerbaijani exclave entirely surrounded by Armenia, Iran, and Turkey, with no land connection to Azerbaijan proper. The republic issues its own coins under autonomous authority, though these circulate alongside Azerbaijani manat and are tied to the same currency system. The 2015 qapik series was part of a broader coinage refresh following Azerbaijan's 2006 redenomination, arriving nearly a decade later as Nakhchivan asserted its distinct administrative identity in metal.
