Cast rather than struck, this heavy bronze quadrans belongs to a period when central Italian communities were producing aes grave alongside — and sometimes in competition with — the Roman monetary system expanding outward from the Tiber. Attribution to a specific city remains unresolved; Haeberlin's work on aes grave left numerous pieces in exactly this uncertain category, grouped by fabric and iconographic parallels rather than any epigraphic confirmation of origin.
