| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse displays the quartered royal arms of Castile and León surmounted by an open crown, struck in the characteristic cob (macuquina) style with irregular flan edges typical of hammered colonial coinage. The shield is divided into four quarters: castles (Castile) in the upper-left and lower-right, and rampant lions (León) in the upper-right and lower-left, with a central escutcheon. The assayer mark and mint mark AP appear to the left of the shield, with the oB assayer initial also present in the field. A partial Latin legend, reading PHILLIPVS DE, runs along the coin's periphery, though much of it is off-flan due to the cob striking method. |
