| Beschrijving voorzijde | Host coin of Spanish Colonial origin bearing the crowned royal arms of Castile and León at center, flanked by the Pillars of Hercules, all within a toothed border. The circular legend reads CAROLUS III DEI GRATIA, identifying the issuing monarch. A small round hole has been cut through the lower-left field of the coin as part of the Costa Rican emergency monetary adaptation. The Type I countermark — a radiant six-pointed star within a recessed circle of approximately 7 mm diameter — was applied by Costa Rican authorities to validate the piece for local circulation, though it does not appear prominently on this side. |
