Oman's National Day commemoratives have been issued with considerable regularity since the 1970s, marking Sultan Qaboos bin Said's accession following the 1970 palace coup that deposed his father, Said bin Taimur. The 45th issue falls within a long run of annual silver strikes that the Central Bank has produced primarily for the collector market, with genuine circulation essentially never occurring.
