Qatar's first domestic currency issue followed the 1973 dissolution of the Qatar-Dubai riyal arrangement, which had itself only existed since 1966. The Qatar Monetary Agency — established specifically to manage the transition — contracted Bradbury Wilkinson for the entire inaugural series, a logical choice given the firm's extensive experience printing notes for newly independent Gulf states in that period.
Pick #1 is the foundation note of independent Qatari currency. Simple watermark security was standard for a first issue from a newly constituted monetary authority, and the series was replaced relatively quickly by the Qatar Central Bank issues of the 1980s.
