The design is arranged horizontally, with an ornate arabesque border of interlaced scrollwork enclosing the central field; two circular medallions carry calligraphic Arabic/Dari inscriptions, flanked by additional cartouches. At left, a tall ornamental frame — intended for the serial number — and a separate oval panel remain blank, as is characteristic of a trial or proof printing.

备注	India's 1 Rupee notes issued under the Government of India's Treasury authority have a long history, but the 1920 date places this squarely in the post-WWI period when British India was managing significant currency pressures — wartime inflation had badly eroded public confidence in smaller denominations, and the 1 Rupee note was filling a gap left by the near-disappearance of silver rupee coins from circulation. Pick 1A is among the scarcer early signatures in the series. Paper quality on surviving examples is frequently compromised by the climate conditions of the subcontinent.
