| Opmerkingen |
The Banco Nacional Ultramarino's rupia issues for Portuguese India occupy an odd corner of colonial currency history — a Portuguese institution issuing denominations in a unit derived from the Indian rupee, for a territory that Portugal had held since 1510 but which sat entirely within the commercial orbit of British India. The BNU held the note-issuing monopoly for Portuguese India, Macau, and Timor, and Thomas De La Rue handled the printing for much of this period.
P#23 is scarce in any grade. The 1924 rupias saw limited replacement cycles in Goa's small economy, and attrition was high in the coastal humidity.
