Daerah Djambi was one of several regional administrations within the revolutionary Indonesian Republic that issued its own emergency currency during the independence struggle against the Dutch. These regional notes — collectively part of the Oeang Republik Indonesia Daerah (ORID) system — were authorized locally because central distribution from Yogyakarta was unreliable and Dutch blockades made movement of currency across Sumatra extremely difficult.
Djambi's issues are among the scarcer ORID emissions. Paper quality was poor by necessity, and many notes were damaged by the tropical climate before they could be redeemed after sovereignty was consolidated in 1949.
