1 Sant - Ali II

Ali ibn Hamud, the young sultan whose authority this coin carried, was installed by the British in 1902 at around age twelve following his father's death. He abdicated in 1911, reportedly pressured out by British officials who found him difficult to manage, and spent the remainder of his life in Europe. His brief reign produced a very limited range of coinage, making this issue one of only a handful of types struck under his name.
