| Obverse description | An anchor depicted facing, with the stock rendered at the top and the flukes curving outward at the base, displayed in low relief characteristic of Central Italian cast bronze coinage. A single pellet (value mark) appears to either side of the anchor shank, indicating the denomination of one sextans (one-sixth of the as). The design is rendered in a bold, schematic style typical of the heavy aes grave series of the third to second century BC. |
