The piece itself is one-eighth of a Spanish colonial 8 Reales, cut to produce a fractional denomination for local circulation in the British Virgin Islands. The irregular, roughly triangular shape retains the cut edges of the parent coin, and the silver surface shows the characteristic texture of a manually applied stamp. This Type II countermark is distinguished by its rectangular punch form enclosing the island name. |

Cut edges define the two straight sides of the triangular section, while the curved edge represents the original circumference of the 8 Reales.
