Zimbabwe's post-dollarization coinage presents an odd numismatic puzzle. After the catastrophic hyperinflation that rendered the Zimbabwe dollar worthless by 2009, the country adopted a multi-currency basket and eventually began issuing "bond coins" in 2014 — nominally pegged to the US dollar but accepted with deep public skepticism. This shilling denomination, part of a military aircraft series, falls squarely in that uneasy period when the government was issuing collectible-themed coinage partly to generate foreign exchange rather than meet genuine circulation demand.
The F/A-18 Hornet has no particular connection to Zimbabwean military history — the Zimbabwe Air Force never operated the type.
