| 裏面の説明 | The Commonwealth Coat of Arms of Australia dominates the central field, depicting a heraldic shield quartered with the badges of the six Australian states, supported on the dexter by a kangaroo and on the sinister by an emu, both standing on a grassy mound. Above the shield appears the seven-pointed Commonwealth Star. A scrolled ribbon beneath the supporters bears the motto ADVANCE AUSTRALIA in raised letters. The denomination ONE SHILLING arcs along the upper periphery within the toothed border, while the date appears at the base of the field flanked by decorative stops. |

Australia's shilling was struck at both the London and Melbourne mints throughout this run, and pieces can be attributed by mint mark — or its absence. The Melbourne Mint, operating under Royal Mint branch status, struck the majority of later dates without a mint mark, while London issues carry an "H" or no distinguishing mark depending on the year, a detail that continues to trip up even experienced collectors.
The 1915 and 1926 dates are the keys to the series by mintage alone. The 1927 saw a sharp drop in production as Australia moved toward establishing its own sovereign monetary infrastructure — the Commonwealth Bank was gaining authority over currency matters, and the mix of political and economic pressures of the 1920s left several dates genuinely scarce in circulation grades.
