1 Shilling Without legend

Kenya's first post-independence coinage was introduced in 1966, replacing the East African shilling that had served the region under British colonial administration. The deliberate omission of a regal legend — standard on colonial issues — was a pointed statement by the newly sovereign state, severing the typological link to the Crown. The series ran only three years before a redesign followed in 1969.
