Aanvullende informatie

Uzbekistan's som was introduced in 1994, replacing the transitional coupon currency that had itself only replaced the Soviet ruble two years prior. By 1997, when this nickel clad steel issue entered production, the country was deep into a period of currency inconvertibility — the government had imposed strict foreign exchange controls that effectively isolated the som from international markets until reforms began in 2003.

The KM#8 series ran through 2000, after which rampant inflation rendered the 1-som denomination functionally worthless in everyday transactions.
