Obverse description The Ecuadorian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a condor with outstretched wings perched atop an oval shield containing Mount Chimborazo, a steamship on a river, and a rising sun; the shield is flanked by laurel and palm branches. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 1959 positioned in the exergue below the arms. The design is rendered in high relief against a flat field, bordered by a continuous beaded rim.
