Obverse description Central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform fashion and read top to bottom, right to left. The inscription 正和通寶 (Chinh Hòa Thông Bảo) is rendered in raised relief against a flat field. The characters are bold and well-defined, separated by the inner rim of the square hole and the outer raised border. A plain, slightly raised rim encircles the entire obverse.
