The Bank of Taiwan was re-established under the Republic of China government following Japan's defeat and the return of Taiwan in October 1945, after fifty years of Japanese colonial administration. This 1946 issue was among the earliest notes produced under that restored authority, printed by the Central Engraving and Printing Plant on the mainland — Taiwan did not yet have its own secure printing infrastructure.

The timing matters: within two years, the hyperinflationary collapse of the ROC's mainland currency would drive a separate monetary system in Taiwan, eventually producing the New Taiwan Dollar in 1949. This note predates that rupture by a narrow margin.
