| Obverse description | Facing effigy of President Mobutu Sese Seko, depicted wearing his characteristic leopard-skin toque and eyeglasses, set within a recessed circular field. The legend 'UN ZAIRE' arcs around the upper portion of the design, with 'ZAIRE' continuing to the right, and the date '1987' appears below the portrait in the exergue area. The entire design is rendered in low relief on a concave lead flan with an irregular, roughly squared outline, characteristic of a reverse trial striking used to test die design and depth. |
