The armorial shield displays the traditional quartered design of the Order of St. John impaled with the personal arms of the Grand Master. A circular legend in Latin surrounds the entire device, naming the Grand Master in full with his titles, rendered in a crisp, upright Roman typeface characteristic of early eighteenth-century Maltese coinage. |

The composition conveys an act of divine investiture, a hallmark of Hospitaller coinage iconography. The date 1722 appears within the legend at the base of the design, with the pious motto arcing around the upper portion of the field in well-struck Latin capitals. |
