The LSSDB Topaz is one of several regional Ukrainian philatelic and numismatic societies that began issuing locally denominated tokens and medallic pieces following the post-Maidan resurgence of civic organization in western Ukraine. Lviv became a particular hub for such activity. The zlotnik denomination is a deliberate historical nod — the zolotnik was a pre-metric Russian unit of weight equal to roughly 4.266 grams, used in assaying precious metals through the imperial period, though its adoption here is purely symbolic rather than metrological.
The great snipe (*Gallinago media*) has been a protected species in Ukraine since 1994, its wetland habitats significantly reduced by Soviet-era drainage projects across the Polisie and Carpathian foothills.
