Brazil's early 1990s hyperinflation was severe enough that this 10,000 cruzeiro note — a large denomination when introduced — was effectively obsolete within months of issue. The cruzeiro itself was abolished in August 1993 and replaced by the cruzeiro real at a ratio of 1,000 to 1, instantly reducing this note's face value to ten cruzeiros reais. The series ran barely two years before the currency beneath it collapsed.
