Gabon's first independent central bank issue under the République Gabonaise banner, this note predates the country's full integration into the BEAC (Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale) framework, which absorbed the individual Gabonese central bank's note-issuing function in 1972. The series had an exceptionally short operational window — essentially one year before the regional authority took over, making P#1 a single-series issue with no successor under the same institutional name.

Banque de France produced this in Paris, as it did for much of Francophone Africa at the time under long-standing technical assistance agreements that outlasted independence by decades.
