Pick 160 belongs to a long-running high-denomination series that has been progressively devalued into near-irrelevance by Iran's chronic inflation. By the time this note was issued, 10,000 rials was worth less than a quarter of a US cent at the open market rate — a denomination that had been significant in the 1980s reduced to something most Iranians accumulate in thick rubber-banded stacks for small street transactions.

Iran's 2020 legislation formally redenominated the currency at 10,000 rials to 1 toman, reviving the historic toman name, though implementation has been gradual and the rial designation persists on physical notes during the transition period.
