These pieces are private fantasy tokens manufactured and sold — primarily by Daniel Carr of Moonlight Mint — capitalizing on fringe speculation about a hypothetical North American monetary union. Carr has been transparent about their nature; the controversy comes from secondary sellers marketing them as suppressed government coins.
