10 Balboas Republica de Tule

The Republic of Tule — more properly the Guna Yala comarca — is an autonomous indigenous territory on Panama's Caribbean coast whose people have fiercely resisted outside authority since a successful 1925 revolt against Panamanian government attempts to suppress traditional dress and customs. Issuing a coin under the name "República de Tule" is a pointed acknowledgment of that political identity, one the Guna have maintained in practice if not always in official nomenclature.

The silver-plated format places this squarely in the modern commemorative trade coin category, almost certainly produced for export rather than circulation within Panama itself.
