The P#61 series had an unusually long run for a Venezuelan note of its denomination — nearly a decade of continuous issue across multiple date variants. By the late 1980s, Venezuela's bolivar was under severe inflationary pressure following the collapse of oil revenues and the debt crisis that culminated in the 1989 Caracazo riots. A 10-bolívar note that held meaningful purchasing power in 1986 was effectively small change by the mid-1990s, which accelerated its withdrawal from active use.

Collectors should note that the series spans several signature combinations, and earlier-dated examples with cleaner paper are harder to locate than the volume of the print run would suggest.
