| 正面描述 | Facing three-quarter portrait of an African elephant head, rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail, the trunk curling downward toward the lower field. The bold legend SOMALIA is inscribed across the lower portion of the field in large capital letters, partially interrupted by the elephant's trunk. The engraver's name ROMAGNOLI appears in small capitals to the left of the elephant's head, and the word PROVA is inscribed in small capitals to the lower right, identifying this piece as a trial strike. |

The 1950 Italian Somaliland proof issues were struck in anticipation of the territory's transition under Italian trusteeship — a ten-year United Nations mandate that began that same year, with full independence targeted for 1960. Italy had lost its East African colonies after World War II, and the trusteeship arrangement was a carefully negotiated compromise, making these pattern pieces effectively the first coinage produced for a reconstituted administration rather than a colonial one.
KM#Pr3 is a pattern, not a circulation strike. The brass composition was apparently not adopted for the final issue.
