Cadaqués was one of hundreds of Catalan municipalities that issued emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republican government's coin supply collapsed almost immediately after July 1936. These local issues — called "moneda de necessitat" — were authorised under a Generalitat de Catalunya decree and produced by whatever printer a town council could reach. For Cadaqués, that meant Imprenta Trayter in Figueres, roughly 25 kilometres inland, who handled a number of similar municipal commissions across the Alt Empordà comarca during 1937.

Turró 574 is among the smaller-denomination pieces of the series, reflecting the acute shortage of coins below the peseta that made even 10-céntimo transactions impossible through normal channels.
