Aanvullende informatie

Palafrugell, a small Catalan coastal municipality, issued emergency cardboard currency in 1937 as the Republican war economy collapsed conventional supply chains for metal. These local emergency emissions — known as *moneda de necessitat* — proliferated across Republican-controlled Catalonia after the central government in Valencia proved unable to maintain adequate coin supply to municipalities. Hundreds of towns produced their own, many surviving in relatively good condition simply because cardboard hoarded better than it circulated.
