By 1952, Mauritius had been issuing this denomination continuously under British colonial administration for decades, but this final George VI issue carries particular finality — the King died in February of that year, making the 1952 striking one of the last acts of a colonial mint series that would soon transition to Elizabeth II types. Production for Mauritius coinage of this period was handled at the Royal Mint in London, as the island had no minting facility of its own.
