Reverse description Essentially plain field with a small rectangular cartouche struck in the centre, enclosing a stylised depiction of the Tower of London — the Royal Mint's traditional emblem — rendered with two flanking towers surmounted by crosses above a crenellated central structure. The surrounding field is otherwise devoid of legend or additional devices, identifying this piece as an internal Royal Mint pattern or trial piece produced prior to the introduction of New Zealand decimal coinage in 1967.
