Opmerkingen

The 1976 series was the first unified currency issued after reunification, replacing both the North Vietnamese đồng and the South Vietnamese đồng simultaneously — the southern notes at a punishing rate of 500 old to 1 new, a deliberate move to wipe out private wealth accumulated in the south. This note entered circulation in that charged atmosphere, not as routine monetary policy but as an instrument of economic consolidation.

Printed in the Soviet Union, the series reflects the USSR's broader technical support for the newly unified state.
