Issued to commemorate the founding of Isa Town, the planned settlement built under Emir Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa to rehouse Bahrainis displaced from traditional village housing during the island's rapid modernization drive of the 1960s. The project was one of the Gulf region's earliest state-funded housing schemes, financed largely on oil revenues that had only begun flowing in significant volume after World War II.
Struck in a limited proof issue, this is among the first gold coins produced under Bahraini authority following independence preparations — the Fr#1 designation confirms its position as the inaugural entry in the national gold series.
