The Standard Bank of Canada had a short institutional life — founded in 1873, it was absorbed by the Canadian Bank of Commerce in 1928, making its note-issuing years genuinely finite. By 1924 the bank was already in consolidation mode, and relatively few of these $10 notes entered heavy commercial circulation before the merger extinguished the charter entirely.

The American Bank Note Company printed for dozens of Canadian chartered banks during this period, often reusing engraved plate elements across multiple clients. Whether any plate components here were shared or adapted from earlier ABNC commissions for other issuers is worth examining against the broader ABNC Canadian portfolio.

Survivors tend to show teller folds rather than heavy wear — consistent with limited late-period circulation before redemption following the 1928 takeover.
