The Bank of Guyana was established under the Bank of Guyana Act of 1965, with the new national currency replacing the East Caribbean dollar as part of independence-era monetary restructuring — Guyana had become a republic in 1970, but the notes continued under the same basic series for years without interruption. Thomas De La Rue handled the printing throughout the run, a typical arrangement for anglophone Caribbean and South American states transitioning away from colonial currency boards during this period.

The 26-year production span of this series is the detail worth noting. Issues across such a long window vary considerably in signature combinations, and at least six distinct signature pairs are documented for Pick 23.
