The Antarctica Overseas Exchange Office Ltd. is a private issuing entity with no governmental mandate — these notes are novelty souvenirs produced for the collector market, not legal tender in any jurisdiction. The "Scott's Hut Centenary" theme marks 100 years since Robert Falcon Scott's ill-fated 1911–12 Terra Nova expedition, which reached the South Pole in January 1912 only to find Roald Amundsen had beaten them by five weeks. Scott and his four companions died on the return journey.
Printed on polymer, which genuine Antarctic currency — had it ever existed — would never have required.
