Nauru's commemorative coinage of the early 2000s was largely produced under licensing arrangements with overseas minting houses targeting the collector market, with little connection to the island's own monetary or political history. This piece belongs squarely to that category — a world-monument series coin with Nauru's name attached as issuing authority of convenience.

The Colosseum was begun under Vespasian around 70 AD using the spoils of the Jewish War, including wealth looted from the Temple in Jerusalem.
