Belize's 1996 series was part of a broader regional push to incorporate segmented foil security threads into Caribbean note production — a response to the improving quality of photocopier and early desktop scanning technology during the mid-1990s. Thomas De La Rue's segmented thread, appearing as a dashed metallic strip when held to light, was considered a significant step up from the earlier fully embedded threads it replaced on the Belizean series.
