The paper version of this note was issued in parallel with a polymer variant introduced at the same time — an unusual dual-issue arrangement that reflected the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's cautious approach to transitioning substrate technologies. The polymer version (P#401) was the more prominent of the two, making the paper issues the less commonly encountered in circulation today.
These notes were the first 10-dollar issues under the Government of the HKSAR's direct authority rather than any of the three commercial note-issuing banks, a distinction that tends to be overlooked.
