Casino scrip issued by the Playboy Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, which operated from 1981 until the New Jersey Casino Control Commission revoked the property's license in 1987 — one of the more public regulatory failures in Atlantic City's early years. The Commission cited unsuitability of key figures associated with Playboy Enterprises, a decision Playboy contested but ultimately could not reverse.
Hefner's signature on gaming scrip is an oddity. As chairman, his name lent brand authority, but scrip of this type was a controlled instrument, not a souvenir — its presence outside the cage was technically a regulatory matter.
