Obverse description The national coat of arms of Belize occupies the central field, flanked by two woodcutters as supporters, each holding a tool — an axe and a paddle respectively — with a mahogany tree rendered above the quartered shield, which bears crossed tools and a sailing vessel in its quarters. The entire device is encircled by an ornamental wreath of laurel branches. The country name BELIZE appears as a legend at the top of the field, with the motto SUB UMBRA FLOREO inscribed on a scroll beneath the shield, and the date 1981 positioned at the base. A beaded border runs along the inner rim.
