St-Hubert's gift certificate program dates to well before the plastic card era — these paper certificates functioned as de facto bearer instruments redeemable at any network location, a practical necessity for a Quebec-based rotisserie chain that had been expanding across the province since the 1950s. Printed in Laval by a security printer rather than a commercial house, they carry serial numbering and color-shift features modest but deliberate enough to deter casual counterfeiting.
The 1993 date places this squarely in St-Hubert's push toward franchise standardization, when uniform branded paper instruments replaced earlier location-specific vouchers.
